You will have only a 10 minute walk to the world famous shopping street of Váci Utca, and to the funicular railway which takes you up to the medieval castle district. Similarly the stunning Opera House, situated in Andrássy út - a UNESCO World Heritage site – (as is the underground that you can hop on to get around town) is only a 15 min walk or one metro stop away from the apartment, the nearest metro station being just 5 mins away from the apartment.
If you like searching for antiques and objet d’art, then you will also be pleased to know that the apartment is also only 15 mins walk to the street, close to the Parliament, housing all the prime antique shops specialising in Biedermeier and Art Deco furniture and furnishings.
Don’t let the language be a barrier as most Hungarians in the restaurants and shops speak good English, and failing that a pleasant smile and thank you will take you far in your shopping and dining adventures!
Since it eschewed Communism and joined the EU, Hungary has blossomed, and gradually the beautiful city of Budapest is regaining its former glory. There is street after street of fabulous architecture, many buildings fully renovated and many still with their rather shabby-chique charm.
Pictured opposite are:
- The Opera House
- Cathedral
- Szechenyi Baths
- Parliament Building
